INOMATA, a German company specializing in the development of lightweight technology, has announced the launch of a new laser-assisted thermoplastic strip automatic winding technology in cooperation with AFPT GmbH, a German manufacturer of automatic tape/winding equipment. According to INOmeta, the equipment will be installed at its Herford plant in 2019.
Compared with the traditional winding technology developed based on thermosetting products, the laser-assisted thermoplastic strip automatic winding technology developed this time eliminates the need for subsequent re-cure steps, thereby shortening the production cycle of the product and meeting the process requirements of mass production. In addition, key quality parameters have been tested and documented during the thermoplastic winding process. First, the thermoplastic strip is heated and melted with a laser, followed by a precise winding operation by a highly automated robotic arm. In this way, the strip directly completes the "fusion" of the surface. According to INOmeta, this offers a convenient possibility for other subsequent processes, including injection molding.
Based on the new technology developed this time, INOmeta plans to promote the industrial mass production of existing products and promote them to new application areas. At the same time, we will work with partners from different industrial sectors to jointly design, certify and mass produce thermoplastic lightweight components. Applications include automotive, structural components for the aerospace industry, special features for the oil and gas industry, and more.
